The Community Allotment project continues to develop in the garden at Hillside Youth and Community Centre located at the bottom of the school drive (NE49 9AU). Planting/weeding/harvesting days are every Saturday between 10am and 1pm and anyone is welcome to just drop in or stay as long as they like.

We've planted fruit trees including apple, pear, plum and crab apple, blackcurrant, redcurrant, whitecurrant, gooseberry and blackberry bushes, rasberry canes and strawberries. Vegetables planted include potatoes, onions, beans, peas and herbs.

We also run free workshops and talks which have so far included wreath making, using a slow cooker, Vertical Veg, and a Roman Food Workshop, learnt about trees, medicinal herbs, hay meadows and peat bogs. More are planned. For more information email Abigail Cheverst our part time Community Development worker at This email address is being protected from spambots.
